We are a congregational unit of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA). We have three main objectives:
· Build faith by providing opportunities for spiritual development, such as retreats and Bible studies, and by providing a supportive environment for women to grow their faith.
· Build community by helping women forge friendships and support each other through both easy and difficult times. We do this through small groups and also through larger events such as our Christmas Social and bi-annual Spring Tea.
· Support Joy Lutheran Church in its ministries by providing volunteers, funding and other support to the committees within the church.
All women attending Joy are welcome to participate in our activities. You don’t have to sign up, and you don’t even have to be a church member unless you want to serve on the board of directors. You’re welcome to invite your friends, neighbors and relatives to join us at our events.
Our Bible studies are structured around themes, which are selected each season. In the Fall, we hold a retreat, and the retreat theme guides our Autumn study. We also hold a special study series during Lent, using the theme for the Lenten services as our guide.
To support JLC, we provide annual scholarships to church youth, manage the Advent and Lenten soup suppers, provide dinner for the church staff between Christmas Eve services, host a pie social on Thanksgiving eve, and run fundraisers such as bake sales.
Information on our current schedule of events can be found on the Women of Joy bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall (next to the kitchen), or in the e-News. To learn more about Women of Joy, email us at womenofjoyparker@gmail.com or contact Mardee Brosh (mardee.brosh@gmail.com) or Barb Wisler (bwisler@gmail.com).
The Women Of Joy will have a dedicated table during the Fellowship Time on Sunday mornings and we would love for you to stop by and say Hello! Find out what will be happening this year with Women of Joy! Please contact Michelle Comerford for any questions.
All women who attend Joy are members of Women of Joy (WOJ) and in turn are are members of Women of the ELCA (WELCA), the women’s organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. The WELCA includes Lutheran women who gather in over 7,000 locations in the U.S. and the Caribbean, for service, study, advocacy, fellowship and more! WELCA embraces all kinds of ministries that support our mission of mobilizing women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
