Jesus displayed many examples of compassion through loving, healing, leading, teaching and feeding people. “When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion for them and cured their sick.” (Matthew 14:14, NRSV). “Jesus called his disciples to him and said, ‘I have compassion for the crowd because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat, and I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way’.” (Matthew 5:32, NRSV). We are asked to be imitators of Christ; thus compassion should be imbedded in our daily lives. Merriam-Webster defines compassion as “sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it.” Pray that you will be aware of the pain of others and how you could share support.
