(The hike has been rescheduled for May 28th, due to cold and snow in this weekend's forecast). Scott Knight will be leading a hike on Saturday, May 28, at Paint Mines Interpretive Park in Calhan, CO. Scott will share information on the geology and the Native American history and archeology. The location is a record of a geologic and climate event 55 million years ago that many researchers feel is germane to current discussions on climate change. We may see some plants and wildflowers, but they are sparse this year because of lack of rain. It will be about a three-mile hike, with about 500 feet of elevation gain and is rated as an easy - moderate hike. No pets are allowed.
We will meet at Paint Mines at 10 a.m., convening at the first parking lot (north parking lot). Bring sun screen, bug spray, water, snack and/or lunch, bring a light jacket because it could be cool, and wear sturdy shoes. Follow your navigation system to get to Paint Mines Interpretive Park. It is about 55 miles from church. If interested, there is a cafe in Calhan called Karen’s cafe. There is also a Subway. Please RSVP or re-RSVP to Care Coordinator if you plan to participate.
